AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING AN ALLIANCE
BETWEEN
THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
REGION II (NJ)
AND
ACADEMY OF CERTIFIED HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MANAGERS, NEW JERSEY
CHAPTER; AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERS, PENN JERSEY
CHAPTER; AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERS, NEW JERSEY
CHAPTER; CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY;
CHEMISTRY COUNCIL OF NEW JERSEY; THE COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY
ASSOCIATION OF NEW JERSEY; GATEWAY REGIONAL CHAMBER OF
COMMERCE; MIDDLESEX REGIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE; NEW
JERSEY BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION; NEW JERSEY PETROLEUM

AND SOMERSET COUNTY BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP, (HEREINAFTER REFERRED
TO AS "NJICA")

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and NJICA recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful workplaces in New Jersey. OSHA and NJICA hereby form an Alliance to use their collective expertise to help foster a culture of worker health and safety and accident prevention through a cooperative sharing of best practices and technical knowledge. OSHA and NJICA will promote safe and healthful working conditions by:
  • Providing NJICA members with information and guidance that will help them protect employees' health and safety through enhanced knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Increasing access to safety and health information and training resources.
OSHA and NJICA will work together to achieve the following training and education goals:
  • To improve and promote worker safety and health in New Jersey by facilitating communications between OSHA and employers in New Jersey so as to help all business, especially small businesses, understand OSHA's requirements and emergent issues impacting worker safety and health;
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and a positive example to other employers.
OSHA and NJICA will work together to achieve the following outreach and communications goals:
  • OSHA will provide a comprehensive pamphlet, in hard copy and electronic format, containing basic OSHA information. The NJICA organizations will share this information with their organization members;
  • OSHA will provide a copy of its NJ E-Newsletter, in both PDF and Word versions, and interim updates to NJICA organizations who will share it with their membership;
  • NJICA organizations will encourage their members to participate in voluntary compliance programs, such as partnerships and VPP with OSHA;
  • NJICA organizations will make available a portion of their publications, on a space available basis, for saftey and heath education;
  • OSHA will give priority consideration to requests for speakers and presenter, on safety and health issues, from NJICA organizations.
OSHA and NJICA establish the following procedures to implement and maintain this agreement:
  • An implementation team made up of representatives of all the organizations will meet to develop a plan of action, determine working procedures, and identify the roles and responsibilities of the participants. In addition, they will meet at least quarterly to track and share information on activities and results in achieving the goals of the Alliance. At least once a year, these meetings will be in person.
  • This Agreement will remain in effect for eighteen months from the date of signing. Any signatory may terminate its participation for any reason at any time, provided they give 30 days written notice. This Agreement may be modified at any time with the concurrence of all signatories.
