ANNUAL ALLIANCE REPORT
May 28, 2009
OSHA Regions 1 & 2 – Prevent Blindness Tri-State

  1. Alliance Background:

    Date Signed – April 18th, 2007

    Overview: Alliance renewed on April 18th, 2007; the original was signed on April 19th, 2005. The Alliance was formed to provide employers, workers and others such as youth with information, guidance and access to training resources that will help to reduce the number of workplace eye injuries/illness and blindness.

    Implementation Team Members: Kathryn Garre-Ayars, Pres/CEO PBTS, Leona May, OSHA, Bob Kowalski, OSHA, John Able, CT Consultation and Lou Lento, OSHA

    Contributors: Anthony Valente, NJLWD & former Implementation Team member Michael Corbett, OSHA.

    Evaluation Period: April 18th, 2008 to April 17th, 2009

     
  2. Implementation Team Meetings: Quarterly meetings, e-mail & telephone contact made throughout the evaluation period.

     
  3. Events and Products: Solidification of the Eye Safety & Health Awards Program and brochure, March 2009 Northern NJ Federal Safety & Health Council meeting dedicated to Eye Safety &Health, Prevent Blindness Tri-State display at the Safety & Wellness Expo in Atlantic City, NJ.

     
  4. Training and Education
    • CT OSHA Consultation provided some PBTS staff members with an OSHA 10 General Industry Certificate Program; several eye safety & health presentations were made at CT & NJ events.
    • Products: Eye Safety & Health Awards Program brochure, PBTS PowerPoint presentation developed.
    Outreach and Communication: Several eye screenings, PBTS displays and NJ Vision Council meetings were conducted throughout the year.
    • Events: NNJFS&H Council meeting, Safety & Wellness Expo, eye screenings.
    • Products: PBTS PowerPoint presentation / CD.
    Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
    • Events: Annual Prevent Blindness national meeting;
    • Products: see above
       
  5. Results: All signatories agree the Alliance was productive, met its goals and should once again be renewed.
