American Subcontractors Association (ASA) Annual Alliance Report

I. Alliance Background

September 28, 2004 and Renewed May 17, 2007

Overview: This alliance was formed between the participating agency and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with the purpose of promoting safe and healthful working conditions for construction industry trades through training, education, outreach, and communication to reduce back injuries, hand injuries, and lacerations.

Implementation Team Membership: Representatives from OSHA, American Subcontractors Association of Alabama

Contributors: Same as above.

Evaluation Period: September 28, 2006 thru September 28, 2007.

The group conducted implementation meetings in December 2006, May 2007, July 16, 2007 and July 25, 2007

  • In January 2006 the ASA distributed copies of the CDC/NIOSH pamphlet “Easy Ergonomics – A Guide to Selecting Non-Powered Hand Tools”
  • An OSHA representatives conducted a construction update presentation for ASA members in Northern Alabama on 2/01/06
  • An OSHA representatives conducted a construction update presentation for ASA members in Montgomery, Alabama, on 2/08/06
  • An OSHA representatives conducted a construction update presentation for ASA members in Birmingham, Alabama, on 3/29/06
  • An OSHA representative conducted a construction update for ASA members in Decatur, Alabama, on December 6, 2006
  • An OSHA representative discussed future activities with the executive director of ASA in May 2007. Plans were made for the director to determine needs of ASA members and then form a committee to plan activities.
  • An OSHA representative met with members of ASA in Birmingham, Alabama, on July 16, 2007, to discuss future activities, such as a safety fair, for ASA members.
  • An OSHA representative met with members of ASA in Birmingham, Alabama, on July 25, 2007, to make plans for a safety fair for ASA members. A survey form was developed for members to determine their interests and needs. The survey form will be provided to members during fall 2007 - OSHA update sessions.
