ATLANTA -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Georgia Department of Transportation are joining forces with other organizations to promote worker safety during highway and road construction projects. The alliance will be signed during a Dec. 5 ceremony in downtown Atlanta.
"The primary goal of this alliance is to prevent highway construction worker fatalities and serious injuries," said Andre Richards, OSHA's Atlanta-West area director. "This agreement strengthens our outreach efforts by enhancing employer, employee and public awareness of roadway and construction work zone safety hazards."
The alliance will be signed by Commissioner Harold E. Linnenkohl for the Georgia Department of Transportation and representatives from the Georgia Division-Federal Highway Administration; Georgia Highway Contractors Association; Georgia Utility Contractors Association; Association of County Commissioners of Georgia; Georgia Tech Research Institute's Occupational Safety and Health Division; and 3M Corporation.
Signing for OSHA will be the three Georgia area directors: Andre Richards, Atlanta-West; Gei-Thae Breezley, Atlanta-East; and John Deifer, Savannah.
