  3. Overview

    The OSHA and Lamar Outdoor Advertising communications Alliance focuses on providing the general public and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help protect the health and safety of workers, as well as promote a better understanding of worker rights and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Through the Alliance, the organizations will continue to support OSHA's safety and health initiatives and national outreach campaigns.

In addition to these formal meetings, the Alliance coordinators from both groups maintained regular contact throughout the evaluation period to monitor the Alliance’s progress and results.

OSHA’s Prevention of Falls Campaign
Lamar has supported the Agency’s national outreach campaign since 2014. Lamar promoted the campaign on its Website and in publications, and helped to disseminate safety and health outreach materials focusing on the prevention of falls in construction. Lamar also donated over 225 national billboards in more than 15 states and more than 25 cities. Lamar also supported fall-related campaign efforts in the states and OSHA Regions with additional billboard support and outreach.

Lamar has supported the Agency’s national outreach campaign since 2011. Lamar also donated national billboards in more than 10 states and more than 20 cities. Lamar also supported heat-related campaign efforts in the states and OSHA Regions with additional billboard support and outreach.

North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week
Lamar supported North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week each year during the evaluation period. Lamar also donated billboard space in the hometowns for each of the NAOSH Week age-group poster winners.

Outreach and Communication: Work with other Alliance participants on specific issues and products and projects such as construction safety, temporary worker protection, and any other issues that are addressed and developed through the Alliance Program (e.g., participation in the OSHA Alliance Program Construction Roundtable).

Outdoor Advertising Fall Protection Fact Sheet* (2011, December). Identifies fall hazards associated with outdoor advertising (billboards) and provides guidance to prevent potential injuries from inadequate anchor points and highlights good safety practices.

OSHA Alliance Program Construction Roundtable
A Lamar representative participated in the OSHA Alliance Program Construction Roundtable meetings at the Department of Labor. During the meetings, the participants received updates from OSHA, NIOSH, and other Roundtable attendees. The Roundtable also developed products, identified projects, and disseminated outreach and compliance assistance resources in an effort to better protect the safety and health of workers in the construction industry.

‘Safe Each Day” Coloring Book
Lamar developed a coloring book focusing on a story about safety inside and outside of the workplace. Lamar worked with the OSHA Atlanta-West Area Office and the Georgia Struck-by Alliance to develop the product. (2014, April).

IV. Upcoming Milestones

In the upcoming year, OSHA and Lamar plan to undertake several additional projects through the Alliance to provide the general public and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help protect the health and safety of workers, as well as promote a better understanding of worker rights and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. For example, Lamar will continue to promote 2016 NAOSH Week, donate national billboard space for the OSHA national outreach campaigns focusing on the prevention of heat illness in outdoor workers; and the prevention of falls in construction, including support for National Safety Stand-Down-Week- May 2-6, 2016. Lamar will also continue to deliver best practice seminars for OSHA staff focusing on the good safety practices within the outdoor billboard industry. Lastly, Lamar will continue to participate in the OSHA Alliance Program Construction Roundtable, which is held twice a year at the U.S. Department of Labor.
