      The OSHA and SAIA Alliance focuses on providing SAIA's members and others in the construction industry, with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will continue to address the health and safety of workers, particularly by reducing and preventing fall and caught-in-between hazards and by addressing issues related to frame scaffold, mast climbing scaffold, suspended scaffold, and aerial lift equipment.

    Raising Awareness of OSHA’s Rulemaking and Enforcement Initiatives: To share information on occupational safety and health laws and standards, including the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers.

    OSHA’s 2016 National Outreach Campaign Focusing on the Prevention of Falls in Construction

    SAIA support included:

    • On May 3, 2016, SAIA partnered with other organizations and TNT Crane Rental in the Houston area for a Fall Prevention Safety Day. There were 98 individuals that attend the event which had 4 topic presentations and 6 demonstration stations on PPE and Ladders. Region VI Area Director, Mark Briggs, participated in the event.
    • Posted information on the event to the SAIA website with links to OSHA’s resources and registration for the Fall Prevention Safety Day.
    • Distributed a flyer entitled Houston Fall Prevention Safety Day to the Houston area fire departments with information on the event.
    • Disseminated information on their Houston Stand-down on April 20, 2016 with an email blast submitted to 1,257 recipients with a 37% open rate on the emails and also submitted information on the National Fall Prevention Stand-down with an email blast submitted to 7,247 recipients with a 19% open rate on the emails.

    SAIA support included:

    • Post on Facebook February 28, 2017-Walking Working Surface: OSHA’s New Final Rule.
    • During the 2017 SAIA Committee Week Darrell Domokos, SAIA Industrial Council Chair, gave a presentation entitled “Highlight Feature: Walking Working Surfaces” to 150 attendees.
    • SAIA published an article entitled “OSHA Issues New Regulations.” The article discusses the WWS rule in the January/February 2017 Issue of their Scaffold & Access Industry Magazine which is distributed to 2,000 in print and 5,000 digital.

  4. Upcoming Milestones

    In the upcoming year, OSHA and SAIA plan to undertake several additional projects through the Alliance to provide information, guidance and access to training resources on safety and health issues in the construction industry. For example, SAIA will complete and publish the SAIA Transport Platforms video. SAIA plans to develop videos based on their Alliance-developed tip sheets for Rescue Plan for Aerial Work Platform (AWP), Selecting and Implementing a Fall Protection System for AWP, and AWP Pre-Start Safety Checklist.

    SAIA will also partner to support OSHA’s National “Safe & Sound” Outreach Focusing on the Agency’s Safety and Health Program Guidelines, OSHA’s 2017 National Stand-down to Prevent Falls in Construction and OSHA’s 2017 National Outreach Campaign Focusing on Heat Illness Prevention. In addition, SAIA will continue to develop evaluation methods to determine the effectiveness of their Alliance activities and submit their results quarterly to OSHA.

    Lastly, SAIA members will attend meetings of the Alliance Program Construction Roundtable and will provide OSHA with Alliance exhibits at their 2017 Annual Convention, the 2018 World of Concrete, and at the 2018 SAIA Committee Week Conference.

Activity Types:

Alliance Product: Products (e.g., fact sheets, videos, toolbox talks) developed by Alliance participants as part of the Alliance. These are not OSHA products.

Dissemination: An Alliance participant sends OSHA information, Alliance products, or other safety and health information to its stakeholders. This includes information sent by email or social media (Facebook, Twitter), and information included in newsletters and other publications. It also includes hits on the Alliance participant’s or OSHA’s Web page.

Evaluation: Any efforts by the Alliance participant to evaluate the effectiveness of an Alliance activity or the Alliance as a whole.

Event: Participation in events such as the Construction Roundtable and NAOSH Week.

Exhibit: OSHA exhibits at events sponsored by the Alliance participant.

OSHA Product Review: Review of an OSHA product by an Alliance participant. For example, an Alliance participant may provide technical comments on an OSHA eTool or publication. The review itself is considered the Alliance activity.

Speech/Presentation: Speeches or presentation by OSHA staff at events sponsored by the Alliance participant.

Training: This includes best practice seminars or other training that Alliance participants provide for OSHA staff. It also includes training for workers/employers/others by Alliance participants.
