I. Alliance Background

Overview:

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. (SCPBC) agreed to establish an Alliance to reduce motor vehicle and work zone traffic accidents by sharing information, guidance, and training resources.

II. Implementation Team and Contributors:

OSHA and the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. (SCPBC) conducted all required quarterly meeting by both teleconferencing and formal personal meetings. These meetings were conducted as scheduled on – Nov 16, 2004; March 7, 2005, April 4, 2005 and May 4, 2005.

July 28, 2004, through July 28, 2005

III. Events and Products

Training and Education FY 2004

  • 11 classes provided for workers addressing motor vehicle, totaling over 100 students trained
     
  • 7 classes provided for workers addressing maintenance of traffic (MOT), totaling over 100 students trained
     
  • 8 classes provided on forklift training for workers, totaling over 50 students trained
     
  • Participated in OTI courses conducted by the University of South Florida at the SCPBC facility

Outreach and Communication FY 2004

  • Assisted in the distributed of safety and health outreach material developed by OSHA Region IV, such as the Struck-By and Photo CDs, as well as the Tool Box Review Booklet
     
  • Registered for the OSHA Region IV newsletter

Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health FY 2004

  • SCPBC members promoted the Feria Familiar de Salud y Seguridad, Family Safety & Health Fair, (June 4, 2005). One of the primary purposes of this event was to promote safety and health in the Hispanic community.
