Overview

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. (SCPBC) agreed to establish an Alliance to reduce motor vehicle and work zone traffic accidents by sharing information, guidance, and training resources.

Representatives from the Fort Lauderdale OSHA Area Office and the Safety Council of Palm Beach County, Inc. (SCPBC)

July 28, 2005, through July 28, 2006

III. Implementation Team Meetings

Conference Call – August 18, 2005, discussed courses that would enhance program and aid in the reduction of injuries and illnesses in Palm Beach

Conference Call – Nov 1, 2005 discussed distributing OSHA hurricane fact sheets and quick cards

Awards Ceremony – March 9, 2006, Recognition of companies and organizations with exceptional safety & health programs

Conference Call – March 9, 2006 Discussed forklift training

Training Class –July 27, 2006 – Safety and Health Management Systems; discussed renewal of alliance

Events

  • A total of 30 classes were conducted addressing several occupational safety and health topics
    • forklift operator training
    • MOT training at different levels
    • CPR and First Aid
    • OSHA OTI Courses

Outreach and Communication

Events

  • Assisted in the distribution of safety & health outreach material developed by OSHA Region IV, such as the Struck-By, Photo and Falls CDs along with the Tool Box Review Booklet
     
  • Assisted in the distribution of safety and health outreach material developed by OSHA such as hurricane fact sheets and quick cards

V. Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health

Events

  • Awards ceremony to recognized members for innovative safety and health programs such as (1) The City of Boca Raton who conducted a Pre-Hurricane Safety course to prevent injuries to employees required to operate chain saws; (2) Macshmeyer Concrete employees for recognizing and taking immediate action in aiding a fellow worker who was experiencing symptoms related to heat stress.
     
  • SCPBC members promoted the Central Florida Feria Familiar de Salud y Seguridad, Family Safety and Health Fair, (August 20, 2005.) The primary purpose of this event was to promote safety and health in the Hispanic Community.
