Overview
OSHA, Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Federal Highway Administration, Georgia Highway Construction Administration, Georgia Utility Contractors Association, Association of County Commissioners of Georgia, Georgia Tech Research Institute and 3M are committed to sharing their collective expertise to help foster a culture of injury and illness prevention while sharing best practices and technical knowledge, especially in the area of work zone safety and “Struck By” hazards.
II. Implementation Team Membership and Contributors
The implementation team members included representatives from OSHA, Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Federal Highway Administration, Georgia Highway Construction Administration, Georgia Utility Contractors Association, Association of County Commissioners of Georgia, Georgia Tech Research Institute and 3M. Implementation team meetings were conducted as scheduled on 1/16/07, 2/1/07, 2/20/07, 3/7/07, 7/24/07, 9/6/07, 10/2/07 and 11/6/07.

Training and Education
Events
- On July 25, 2007, the group met with a representative of the Construction Safety Council (CSC) to discuss the development of a work zone safety training course.
- The Georgia Utilities Contractor’s Association (GUCA), which is a member of the Alliance, was awarded one of three grants funded by the National Utilities Contractor’s Association (NUCA) to develop an educational training course for employers and employees, focused on the prevention of struck-by hazards and other issues impacting utility construction operations.

Events
- On April 9, 2007, representatives from the Georgia Struck-by Alliance conducted an outreach and awareness presentation for Georgia DOT employees, county representatives and contractors in District One, which is headquartered in Gainesville, GA. Alliance members conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the agreement, provided attendees a fact sheet about the agreement and surveyed the attendees’ interest in work zone safety training.
- On April 10, 2007, representatives from the Georgia Struck-by Alliance conducted an outreach and awareness presentation for Georgia DOT employees, county representatives and contractors in District Two, which is headquartered in Tennille, GA. Alliance members conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the agreement, provided attendees a fact sheet about the agreement and surveyed the attendees’ interest in work zone safety training.
- On April 12, 2007, representatives from the Georgia Struck-by Alliance conducted an outreach and awareness presentation for Georgia DOT employees, county representatives and contractors in District Seven, which is headquartered in Chamblee, GA. Alliance members conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the agreement, provided attendees a fact sheet about the agreement and surveyed the attendees’ interest in work zone safety training.
- On April 13, 2007, representatives from the Georgia Struck-by Alliance conducted an outreach and awareness presentation for Georgia DOT employees, county representatives and contractors in District Six, which is headquartered in Cartersville, GA. Alliance members conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the agreement, provided attendees a fact sheet about the agreement and surveyed the attendees’ interest in work zone safety training.
- On April 17, 2007, representatives from the Georgia Struck-by Alliance conducted an outreach and awareness presentation for Georgia DOT employees, county representatives and contractors in District Three, which is headquartered in Thomaston, GA. Alliance members conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the agreement, provided attendees a fact sheet about the agreement and surveyed the attendees’ interest in work zone safety training.
- On April 18, 2007, representatives from the Georgia Struck-by Alliance conducted an outreach and awareness presentation for Georgia DOT employees, county representatives and contractors in District Four, which is headquartered in Tifton, GA. Alliance members conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the agreement, provided attendees a fact sheet about the agreement and surveyed the attendees’ interest in work zone safety training.
- On April 19, 2007, representatives from the Georgia Struck-by Alliance conducted an outreach and awareness presentation for Georgia DOT employees, county representatives and contractors in District Five, which is headquartered in Jesup, GA. Alliance members conducted a PowerPoint presentation on the agreement, provided attendees a fact sheet about the agreement and surveyed the attendees’ interest in work zone safety training.
Products
- The group promoted the Alliance with an article in the April 2007 issue of the OSHA Region IV Quarterly E-Newsletter.
- The Georgia Utilities Contractor’s Association (GUCA) promoted the Alliance in the organization’s newsletter.
- The group developed an Alliance fact sheet to promote the agreement during the outreach meeting conducted in April 2007.
- The group completed a Georgia Struck-by Alliance Brochure and distributed over 500 copies during the GPTQ conference.

- Alliance representatives conducted a presentation during the Georgia Partnership for Transportation Quality (GPTQ) conference meeting at the University of Georgia, in Athens, GA, December 6, 2007.
