    Alliance Overview

    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Electric Power Associations of Mississippi (EPA of MS) Alliance is focused on reducing and preventing employee exposure to electrical power transmission and distribution equipment hazards.

    August 8, 2010, through April 30, 2012

  2. Implementation Team Meetings

    The implementation Team consist of representatives from OSHA Area Office in Jackson, MS, and the EPA of MS. The group met on the following dates: 8/25/10; 11/9/10; 1/13/11; 4/13/11; 8/24/11; 11/7/11; 1/12/12; and 4/3/12.

    Training and Education

    Events

    During this period of time, representatives from the OSHA Area Office in Jackson, MS, and the EPA of MS participated in the following education and training events for EPA of MS workers and others in the electrical power transmission and distribution industry:
    • OSHA supported the EPA of MS Underground Program by reviewing 29 CFR 1926.650 trenching and excavation standard. These courses were conducted on the following dates: 4/13/11; and 4/24/12.
    • OSHA supported the Alliance by reviewing the 29 CFR 1910.269 standard at courses conducted at the Holmes Community College Apprentice Electric Lineman School. These courses were conducted on the following dates: 11/2/10; 8/26/11; and 3/20/12.
    • OSHA supported the Alliance by reviewing the 29 CFR 1910.269 standard at courses conducted at the Mississippi Delta Community College Apprentice Lineman Program. These courses were conducted on the following dates: 9/9/10; 2/23/11; and 2/2/12.
    • OSHA supported the Alliance by reviewing the 29 CFR 1910.269 standard at a course conducted at the East Mississippi Community college Apprentice Electric Lineman School. The course was conducted on 9/27/11.
    • OSHA supported the Alliance by reviewing the 29 CFR 1910.269 standard at a course conducted at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Apprentice Electric Lineman School. The course was conducted on 9/8/11.

    Outreach and Communication

    Events

    During this period of time, representatives from the OSHA Area Office in Jackson, MS, and the EPA of MS participated in the following outreach and communication events for EPA of MS workers and others in the electrical power transmission and distribution industry:
    • OSHA attended the Full-Time Safety Coordinator Round Table Meeting in Ridgeland, MS, in support of the Alliance on the following dates: 4/5/11 and 4/3/12.
    • OSHA participated in the Arboriculture Seminar in Meridian, MS, in support of the Alliance on the following dates: 1/13-14/11 and 1/12-13/12.
    • OSHA attended the Annual Safety Coordinators Conference in Ridgeland, MS, in support of the Alliance on the following dates: 8/24-25/10; and 8/24-25/11.
    • OSHA supported the Alliance by conducting an OSHA Update presentation at the South Mississippi Electric Power Association's Mozella Plant on 9/21/10 and the Purvis Plant on 9/28/10.
    • OSHA supported the Alliance by participating in the Underground Damage Prevention Summit in Vicksburg, MS, on 11/8-10/10 and Biloxi, MS, on 11/7-9/11.
    • OSHA attended Holmes Community College Apprentice Electric Lineman School Rodeo in Goodman, MS, in support of the Alliance on 4/20/11.
    • OSHA participated in the Pearl River Community College Apprentice Lineman Program Board Meeting in Hattiesburg, MS, in support of the Alliance on 11/16/10.

    Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health FY 2011

    Events
    • The Alliance was promoted during the Southern Area Instructor's Conference in Kansas, by representatives from the EPA of MS. The event was conducted 6/27-30/2011.
    • The Alliance was promoted during their National Utility Training & Safety Education Association Conference in Indiana, by representatives from the EPA of MS. The event was conducted 9/19-22/2011.

    • Renew the Alliance
    • The EPA of MS Alliance will participate in the Arboriculture Seminar in January 2013.
