   Overview:
   
   OSHA, Georgia Department of Transportation, Georgia Federal Highway Administration, Georgia Highway Construction Administration, Georgia Utility Contractors Association, Association of County Commissioners of Georgia, Georgia Tech Research Institute, 3M, Georgia Branch – Associated General Contractors, Lamar Outdoor Advertising, Georgia Power, Construction Education Foundation of Georgia, Pike Electric, National Safety Council – Georgia Chapter and Ansco & Associates formed an Alliance to share their collective expertise and to foster a culture of injury and illness prevention focused on the prevention of work zone and struck-by hazards.

    

2. Implementation Team Memberships and Contributors:

   The implementation team included representatives from all of the Alliance participants. Implementation team meetings were conducted as scheduled on following dates: 11/30/2010; 12/7/2010; 2/1/2011; 3/8/2011; 7/19/2011; 8/30/2011; 10/4/2011; 1/12/2012; 5/1/2012; and 7/11/2012

   Evaluation Period:

   Training and Education

   Events

   • On August 3, 2011, beginning at 7 am approximately 12,000 construction jobsite employees on more than 250 jobsites across Georgia ceased work to participate in Georgia Branch, AGC's Safety Stand Down. During the safety stand down, construction sites across Georgia were encouraged to stop work and conduct an hour long safety training presentation focusing on heat illness, which was developed with the full support of OSHA.    • On November 7 – 11, 2011, the Alliance group coordinated a state-wide safety stand down. During the safety stand down, construction sites across Georgia were encouraged to stop work and conduct an hour long safety training presentation focused on the hazards of distracted driving. The group also developed an informational flyer for the event and a toolbox talk (in both English and Spanish).    • On April 22 – 28, 2012, the Alliance group coordinated a state-wide safety stand down. During the safety stand down, construction sites across Georgia were encouraged to stop work and conduct an hour long safety training presentation focused on the highway work zone safety. The group also developed an informational flyer for the event and a toolbox talk (in both English and Spanish).    Outreach and Communication

   Events

   • During this period, in conjunction with the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at Georgia Tech Research Institute, the Alliance group conducted a poster contest to alert drivers to the hazard of driving while texting.
      
   • During this period, the following organizations joined the Alliance group:
      
     • Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA)
     • Pike Electric
     • National Safety Council – Georgia Chapter
     • Ansco & Associates
     • On March 15 - 16, 2012, the Alliance group supported the CEFGA CareerExpo at the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC). This event includes exhibitors, demonstrations and hands-on activities. The Expo was conducted in conjunction with the Georgia SkillsUSA competitions. The goal of this event was to raise awareness of careers in construction, engineering, architecture, transportation, and energy. The event represented a cooperative effort by private companies, trade associations, universities, and government agencies.
        
       • Total conference participation was 6,685, which includes 5,000 students and 335 company volunteers. A total of 225 schools participated in the CareerExpo.
   • Lamar Outdoor Advertising continued to support the Alliance by posting a safety message on billboards in Atlanta, Brunswick, as well as Augusta, Georgia. The message promotes the new state law, which bans texting and driving (message: R-U-In-text-i-Cated).

5. Upcoming Milestones in FY 2012-2013
    
   • Complete the Georgia Struck-by Alliance renewal process and expansion of the group's membership
   • Continue to raise awareness throughout the state regarding the hazards of distracted driving
   • Conduct work zone safety poster contest for youth, in conjunction with the Georgia Youth Alliance and the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA)
   • Provide vehicle simulator for to CEFGA for the CareerExpo, which demonstrates the hazards of texting and driving to youth
   • Work with participating employers and organizations to distribute distracted-driver safety articles
   • Developing a Facebook page for the Georgia Struck-by Alliance
