Overview:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Georgia Local Section - American Industrial Hygiene Association (GLS-AIHA), the Georgia Chapter - American Society of Safety Engineers (GA-ASSE), the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA), the Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE), and the Georgia Tech Research Institute’s Occupational Safety and Health Division (GTRI) formed an Alliance focused on providing career/technical educators, students and others with information, guidance and training resources to protect the safety and health of career/technical students. - Implementation Team Memberships and Contributors:
The implementation team included representatives from all of the Alliance participants, as well as the US DOL – Wage and Hour Division (WHD). Implementation team meetings were conducted as scheduled on the following dates: 7/29/2011; 9/26/2011; 11/17/2011; 2/2/2012; and 5/22/2012.

Events
- Members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted two young worker safety and health training sessions for students enrolled in the MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) summer camp at the following locations:
- Augusta, Georgia, June 20 & 21, 2011
- Gwinnett County, Georgia, June 27 & July 1, 2011
- On July 12, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted three young worker safety and health training sessions for instructors during the Georgia Career & Technical Education (GACTE) Conference in Cobb County, GA.
- On July 27 through 28, 2011, members of the Alliance group conducted an OSHA 10-hour construction safety and health training course for students at the Central Education Center in Newnan, Georgia.
- On August 9, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted a young worker safety and health training session for students enrolled in the Work-based Learning Program in Henry County, Georgia.
- On August 22 through 26, 2011, members of the Alliance group conducted an OSHA 10-hour construction safety and health training course for career technology students enrolled at Maxwell High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
- On December 5 through 14, 2011, CEFGA conducted an OSHA 10-hour construction safety and health training course for career technology instructors in Macon, Georgia.
- On August 17, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted young worker safety and health training session for students and instructors at Stephen County High School in Toccoa, Georgia.
- On August 29 through September 1, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted four young worker safety and health training sessions for students and instructors at Lincolnton High School in Lincolnton, Georgia.
- On September 14, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted a young worker safety and health training session for students and instructors at Centennial High School, Gwinnett County, Georgia.
- On November 5, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted a young worker safety and health training session for students and instructors on the Kell High School, Robotics Team, as well as robotics team members from several other metro Atlanta high schools. Kell High School is located in Cobb County, Georgia.
- On November 11 through 16, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted a young worker safety and health training session for students enrolled in the Riverwood International Charter School,Sandy Springs, Georgia.
- On December 7 through 9, 2011, members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted a young worker safety and health training session for students enrolled in the Dental Technology Program at Cross Keys High School in DeKalb County, Georgia.
- On December 5, 2011, through January 14, 2012, members of the Alliance group conducted an OSHA 10-hour construction safety and health training course for career technology students at Cross Keys High School in DeKalb County, Georgia.
- Members of the Alliance group, through the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, conducted several young worker safety and health training sessions for students enrolled in the MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) summer camp at the following locations:

- On June 19 through 21, 2012, members of the Alliance group conducted an OSHA 502 update course for Lee County 9th Grade Academy.

- During this period, the Alliance group, led by the Center for Young Worker Safety and Health at GTRI, created two online training sessions for the Department of Education’s online training platform.

Outreach and Communication
Events
- On March 15 - 16, 2012, the Alliance group supported the CEFGA CareerExpo at the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC). This event includes exhibitors, demonstrations and hands-on activities. The Expo was conducted in conjunction with the Georgia SkillsUSA competitions. The goal of this event was to raise awareness of careers in construction, engineering, architecture, transportation, and energy. The event represented a cooperative effort by private companies, trade associations, universities, and government agencies.
- Total conference participation was 6,685, which includes 5,000 students and 335 company volunteers. A total of 225 schools participated in the CareerExpo.
- Exhibit booths were staffed by OSHA, Georgia Tech Onsite Consultation Program, AIHA, ASSE and the US DOL – WHD, as well as Brasfield & Gorrie and Georgia Institute of Technology. The AIHA-Georgia Local Section (GLS) booth focused on preventing noise-induced hearing loss (among teen workers). Student were also provided with a down-load the OSHA Heat Stress App.
- During this period, members of the Georgia Youth Alliance also participated in the following career day events:
- Cross Keys High School in DeKalb County, Georgia (10/27/11)
- Ola High School in Henry County, Georgia (1/27/12)
- Federal Executive Board (FEB), Federal Government Open House for High School students at the Carter Museum and Library in Atlanta, Georgia (5/9/12)

- Participate in the Trade and Industrial Educators of Georgia (TIEGA) Conference in January 2013.
- Continue to participate in the Construction CareerExpo led by the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA). This event includes exhibitors, demonstrations, hands-on activities and the Skills USA competitions.
