C. Overview
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia, formed an Alliance to provide Mexican workers throughout the southeast with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety and allow them to exercise their rights fully.

The implementation team included representatives from the OSHA and the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia.

The following table summarizes the Alliance’s activities in support of the goals in the Alliance agreement.
Raising Awareness of OSHA’s Rulemaking and Enforcement Initiatives: The Participants intend to work together to achieve the following goal related to raising awareness of OSHA’s rulemaking and enforcement initiatives:
- To develop information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to develop ways of communicating such information (e.g., print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools, and links to OSHA’s Web site from the Consulate’s Web site) to Mexican nationals working in Alabama and Georgia and their employers.
- To speak, exhibit, or appear at the Participants’ conferences, local meetings, or other events.
- To participate in “Mobile Consulate” activities and events.

- To develop training and education programs for Mexican workers and Mexican employers in Alabama and Georgia regarding workplace safety and health.
- To develop training and education programs for Mexican workers and Mexican employers in Alabama and Georgia to promote understanding of workers’ rights and responsibilities of employers under the OSH Act, including the use of the OSHA complaint process.
Activity Type Activity Name/Summary OSHA Areas of Emphasis Supported Number Reached Training On October 29, 2015, OSHA, WHD and EEOC provide training to all Latin Consulates and several community outreach organizations at the Latin American Association. The training was focused on instructing the consular staff and community leaders how to make referrals to OSHA and the other agencies. Worker Rights, OSHA Rules and Whistleblower 25 Students Outreach and Communication: The Participants intend to work together to achieve the following outreach and communication goals:
- To develop information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to develop ways of communicating such information (e.g., print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools, and links to OSHA’s Web site from the Consulate’s Web site) to Mexican nationals working in Alabama and Georgia and their employers.

Activity Type Activity Name/Summary OSHA Areas of Emphasis Supported Number Reached Dissemination During the week of May 4 through 15, 2015, the OSHA Atlanta Regional Office worked cooperatively with the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia to promote the National Fall Prevention Safety Stand-down event. Fall Prevention 100+ workers Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination August 31 through September 4, 2015, OSHA once again worked cooperatively with the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia, to conduct a health fair in Gainesville, Georgia. This year the event was conducted in conjunction with Worker’s Rights Week and it features sites in both Atlanta, as well as Gainesville. This event was also an effective collaboration between the public sector, private sector, non-profit organizations, as well as the faith-based community. All of the OSHA participants were bilingual; therefore, they were able to effectively share health, safety and worker’s rights information with many of the workers. This outreach effort was focused on protecting the health and safety of Hispanic workers in the poultry and construction industries. Fall Prevention, Worker Rights, Whistleblower, Struck by, Hazard Communication/ Chemicals, Heat Illness Prevention and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 1,400+ workers in the poultry and construction industries Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination October 5 through 9, 2015, the OSHA compliance assistance specialist (CAS) in the Atlanta-West Area Office supported the Mexican Consulate’s 15th Annual Binational Health Week in Atlanta, Georgia. Fall Prevention, Worker Rights, Struck by, Hazard Communication/ Chemicals, Heat Illness Prevention and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 300+ workers Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination and Other (Media) During this period, the CAS from the OSHA Atlanta-West Area Office effectively promoted OSHA’s outreach to the Hispanic community through the following media outlets: - Hispanic radio show, Radio Informacion 1310 AM (1/16/2015; 1/23/2015; 2/6/2015; and 3/20/2015)
