    C. Overview:

    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia, formed an Alliance to provide Mexican workers throughout the southeast with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees’ health and safety and allow them to exercise their rights fully.

    D. Implementation Team Membership and Contributors:

    The implementation team included representatives from the OSHA and the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia.

    Quarterly implementation team meetings were conducted during the following periods:

    In addition to these formal meetings, the Alliance coordinators from both groups maintained regular contact throughout the reporting period to monitor the Alliance’s progress and results.

    Raising Awareness of OSHA’s Rulemaking and Enforcement Initiatives:

    The Participants intend to work together to achieve the following goal related to raising awareness of OSHA’s rulemaking and enforcement initiatives:

    • To develop information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to develop ways of communicating such information (e.g., print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools, and links to OSHA’s Web site from the Consulate’s Web site) to Mexican nationals working in Alabama and Georgia and their employers.
    • To speak, exhibit, or appear at the Participants’ conferences, local meetings, or other events.
    • To participate in “Mobile Consulate” activities and events.

    Training and Education: The Participants intend to work together to achieve the following training and education goal:

    • To develop training and education programs for Mexican workers and Mexican employers in Alabama and Georgia regarding workplace safety and health.
    • To develop training and education programs for Mexican workers and Mexican employers in Alabama and Georgia to promote understanding of workers’ rights and responsibilities of employers under the OSH Act, including the use of the OSHA complaint process.

    Outreach and Communication: The Participants intend to work together to achieve the following outreach and communication goals:

    Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination During the period, the Compliance Assistance Specialist (CAS) from the OSHA Atlanta-West Area Office and OSHA staff from the Atlanta-East Area Office supported the following Mobile Consulate events:
    • On Saturday, May 28th in Baxtley, Georgia
    • July 5 through 8, 2016, in Gainesville, Georgia
    • November 7 through 8, 2016, in Gainesville, Georgia
    Hispanic/ Latino Workers; Fall Prevention, Worker Rights, Hazard Communication/ Chemicals, Heat Illness Prevention and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 100+ workers
    Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination On May 13, 2016, the CAS from the OSHA Atlanta-West Area Office served as an exhibiter during the Mexican Consulate’s “Women and Employment Rights Week” event. The event was conducted in Atlanta, Georgia. Hispanic/ Latino Workers; Fall Prevention, Worker Rights, Hazard Communication/ Chemicals, Heat Illness Prevention and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 100+ workers
    Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination On June 14, 2016, the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia participated in the Construction Industry Symposium conducted by OSHA, the Georgia Tech Onsite Consultation Program and several construction companies. Approximately 60 employers and employee representatives attend this event, which focused on best practices in the construction industry.     Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination August 29th through September 3rd, the OSHA CAS from the Atlanta-West Area Office supported the Mexican Consulate’s 8th Annual Labor Rights Week in Atlanta, Georgia. During this week, events were also conducted in Mobile, Alabama. Hispanic/ Latino Workers; Fall Prevention, Worker Rights, Hazard Communication/ Chemicals, Heat Illness Prevention and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 900+ workers
    Exhibit, Speech/Presentation, Dissemination October 7 through 12, 2016, the CAS from the OSHA Atlanta-West Area Office participated in the Mexican Consulate’s “Health Week.” Information was disseminated through an exhibit table and presentation was conducted for workers. The event was conducted in Atlanta, Georgia.    
    Speech/Presentation, Dissemination During the period, the CAS from the OSHA Atlanta-West Area Office conducted monthly outreach visits to the Mexican Consulate to inform workers about their workplace safety and health rights. Hispanic/ Latino Workers; Fall Prevention, Worker Rights, Hazard Communication/ Chemicals, Heat Illness Prevention and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) 500+ workers
    Speech/Presentation and Other On September 20, 2016, the Mexican Consulate participated in the EMPLEO planning meeting. Hispanic/Latino Workers, Fall Prevention, Heat Illness Prevention, temporary Workers, Young Workers and Small Business 100+ workers
    Speech/Presentation and Other On November 16, 2016, the Mexican Consulate participated in the EMPLEO follow-up meeting. This meeting primarily focused on logistics for the group. Hispanic/Latino Workers, Fall Prevention, Heat Illness Prevention, temporary Workers, Young Workers and Small Business 100+ workers

  5. Upcoming Milestones in FY 2015

    • OSHA will continue to work cooperatively with the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia to promote workplace safety and health in the Hispanic community during the following events:
      • Worker Memorial Day
      • Labor Rights Week
      • Occupational Health Week
    • OSHA will continue to work cooperatively with the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia to effectively address safety and health referrals in Region IV.
