    3. Overview

      OSHA, Oklahoma Department of Labor and Oklahoma Safety Council (OSC) formed an Alliance to provide OSC members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect the health and safety of workers, particularly by reducing and preventing exposure to occupational hazards, and understand the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act). In developing this Alliance, OSHA and OSC recognize that OSHA, Oklahoma Department of Labor Consultation Services and Oklahoma Safety Council partners are an integral part of the OSHA national effort.

    In addition to these formal meetings, the Alliance coordinators from both groups maintained regular contact throughout the reporting period to monitor the Alliance's progress and results.

    Event April 26, 2018: Worker Memorial Day. OSC provided silhouettes for each worker killed on the job during the previous 12 months. The Oklahoma Commissioner of Labor served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. The OSHA Area Director and the Oklahoma Department of Labor Deputy Commissioner read the names of 44 workers killed in occupational accidents. Falls, struck by, electrocution, caught-in between, fire and explosion, etc.

    Training May 10, 2018: National Stand Down to Prevent Falls in Construction at Oklahoma Safety Council, Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma Safety Council at Oklahoma City hosted a series of presentations for a group of 47 attendees from OSHA, general industry, oil and gas, and various educational institutions.

    David Bates, Oklahoma City Area Director, provided a presentation that provided an overview of fatal fall events, and included a discussion of fatalities from falls in Oklahoma in fiscal year 2018. Jason Hudson, Oklahoma OSHA Consultation Program provided a presentation on the OSHA Consultation Program.
