    3. Overview

      The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), The Oklahoma Department of Labor (ODOL), OSHA Consultation Division, and The Oklahoma Municipal Contractors Association (OMCA) recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces. OSHA and OMCA formed an Alliance to provide OMCA members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect the health and safety of workers. The Alliance focuses on reducing and preventing exposure to excavation hazards, struck-by and crushed-by hazards, exposure to silica, confined space hazards, heat and cold related illnesses, and other issues and understand the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).

    Training and Education 5/30/2018: OMCA hosted a half-day workshop on Reducing Trenching and Excavation Hazards at Metro Technology Center downtown campus on May 30, to satisfy DEQ's requirements for 4 hours continuing education for individuals with Class C & Class D water licenses.  They had 22 employees from 10 of their member companies in attendance of the workshop dealing with erosion control, trenching and excavation safety and silica exposure. Workshop conducted by Raymond Melton, CESP, City of Oklahoma City Environmental Protection Manager, and Jason Bullard, CSHO, of Anderson Safety. 22
    Training and Education 5/23/2018: OMCA sponsored a class on the new Silica OSHA rules, conducted by Jason Bullard of Anderson Safety. Held at Rudy Construction and had employees from 10 different OMCA member companies. 20
    Training and Education 5/22/2019: Training workshop, a half-day workshop on Reducing Trenching and Excavation Hazards, heat illness prevention and OSHA requirements at Metro Technology Center downtown campus to satisfy Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) requirements for 4 hours continuing education for individuals with Class C & Class D water licenses. We had 28 employees from 12 of their member companies in attendance of the workshop dealing with erosion control, trenching and excavation safety and silica exposure. Workshop conducted by Wayne Craney, Stormwater Enforcement Section Manager, ODEQ, WQD and Jason Bullard, CSHO, of Anderson Safety. 28

  4. Evaluations

    The alliance has resulted in a very positive relationship between OMCA member companies and OSHA. OSHA is able to disseminate a large amount of outreach information on various subjects during the year. OMCA members benefit from a cooperative relationship with OSHA.

  5. Upcoming Milestones

    Alliance renewal is due April 3, 2021.
