Title: Injury and Illness Prevention Programs: Who is Using Them?
    Type: Text Slide
    • Federal agencies
      • Department of Defense
      • Department of Energy

    Speaker Notes:

The nation's federal agencies have also recognized the value of I2P2 programs for protecting workers and keeping costs down.

The United States Departments of Defense (DOD) and Energy (DOE) have both adopted this approach for protecting workers employed or stationed at the nation's military installations and nuclear weapons factories, including DOE's high hazard establishments. We will look at the success of DOD's program in a moment.

DOE's program, entitled Integrated Safety Management, includes an expectation that the facilities will "embrace a strong safety culture where safe performance of work and involvement of workers in all aspects of work performance are core values that are deeply, strongly, and consistently held by managers and workers."
