Abstract:
OSHA proposes to issue safety requirements for the control of
hazardous energy sources, as a new 1910.147. This proposal addresses
the lockout/tagout practices and procedures that are commonly used
to disable equipment and to control the release of potentially
hazardous energy while maintenance activities are being performed.
The standard would supplement and support the existing
lockout/tagout provisions by providing comprehensive and uniform
procedures for use where no other standard specifies the use of a
lockout/tagout procedure. The proposal would be applied to general
industry employment under 29CFR 1910, but would not cover maritime,
agriculture, or contruction employment.
