- Title:Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens; Extension of Comment Period; Survey Results
OSHA is extending the time allowed for participants in the hearings on the proposed Bloodborne Pathogens standard to submit additional information and briefs. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published on 5/30/89 (54 FR 23042) and Public hearings were held between September 1989 and January 1990. OSHA is also notifying the public of the availability of results of a survey relating to the technological and economic feasibility of implementing the proposed standard in potentially affected non-hospital facilities and inviting public comment upon the survey data to help assure their accuracy. The data will be used to refine preliminary estimates of population at risk, costs of compliance and economic impacts. Figures in the text show a 73% average response rate to the survey, with 2,453,896 exposed workers in 274,296 establishments represented by the survey results. A similar survey on hospital facilities will be completed soon and will also be made available for review and comment. Postmark deadline for receipt of additional information from hearing participants is 4/19/90, with comments, summations and briefs due 5/21/90. Comments on the surveys must be postmarked by 5/21/90.
