The ASME has recently published a standard titled: Safety Requirements for Window Cleaning. The standard was adopted by ANSI on June 4, 1987, as ANSI/ASME 39.1-1987. This new standard provides criteria and requirements not previously available to OSHA and delineates the industry accepted practices for safely accomplishing the cleaning of all windows of all buildings. A copy is attached for your information and reference.
It is recommended that enforcement personnel, State plan States, and consultation personnel be informed of the new standard.
