OSHA requirements are set by statute, standards and regulations. Our interpretation letters explain these requirements and how they apply to particular circumstances, but they cannot create additional employer obligations. This letter constitutes OSHA's interpretation of the requirements discussed. Note that our enforcement guidance may be affected by changes to OSHA rules. Also, from time to time we update our guidance in response to new information. To keep apprised of such developments, you can consult OSHA's website at https://www.osha.gov.

MEMORANDUM FOR: REGIONAL ADMINISTRATORS OSHA DIRECTORATE HEADS THROUGH: JIM STANLEY Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary FROM: SUSAN FOX Special Assistant for Violence in the Workplace STEVE MALLINGER Acting Director Directorate of Technical Support SUBJECT: Central Repository for Violence in the Workplace Materials
A task force to compile information on violence in the workplace has been established and this information will reside in a central location so as to be available to other Agency staff.
In support of these activities, the Technical Data Center (TDC) (202-219-7500) will be maintaining a file containing reference materials on violence in the workplace. Materials can be forwarded to TDC, where they will be cataloged and filed. Since this is not a docket, copyright laws may preclude TDC from making copies of some of these materials for distribution. Many journal references have been ordered through the inter-library loan. As these are received, a bibliographic listing will be made available.
To make the information contained within the file more accessible to other offices, a database will be put up within OCIS in the next two months and updated as new materials are received at TDC. For questions on the OCIS database, call the OCIS help desk (801-487-0680 ext 234).
