Description: The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has designated Owens Corning's asphalt plant in Denver as a "Star" in the agency's Voluntary Protection Program. OSHA has approved 15 Owens Corning sites in the program, and first awarded this site with VPP designation in 2009.
Background: The VPP Star is OSHA's highest level of recognition of employers and workers who have implemented effective safety and health management systems and maintained injury and illness rates below the Bureau of Labor Statistics' industry averages. The VPP program brings company management, site employees and OSHA together to work cooperatively and proactively to prevent fatalities, injuries and illnesses by focusing on hazard prevention and control, worksite analysis, training, management commitment and worker involvement.
To participate, employers must apply to OSHA for consideration, and undergo a rigorous on-site evaluation by a team of safety and health professionals. Learn more about the VPP.
Duration: Renewed Aug. 18, 2022, Owens Corning has VPP certification for three years.
"Owens Corning has committed leaders dedicated to safety and health excellence at every level of this worksite. Employee engagement is a fundamental requirement of the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program, and this site is an outstanding example of involvement, empowerment, and ownership at the employee level. We are happy to recognize Owens Corning with a VPP Star," said OSHA Regional Administrator Jennifer Rous in Denver.
