US Labor Department's OSHA to host Latino outreach and education
conference on safety, health and workers' rights Feb. 1 in Oakland, Calif.

OAKLAND, Calif. – The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration will host a free regional Latino workforce outreach and education conference on Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Oakland. The one-day event will feature informational booths, and health and safety workshops. It also will provide materials, products and assistance from experts on employee rights and employer responsibilities.

Each year, thousands of workers in the U.S. are injured or killed on the job as a result of preventable incidents. Latino workers are killed and suffer work-related injuries at higher rates. It is with these statistics in mind that the conference is being organized by federal OSHA's Region IX in cooperation with its counterpart state agency, the California Department of Industrial Relations' Cal/OSHA.

The Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division also is partnering with federal OSHA, as are representatives from community organizations, organized labor, the faith-based community, educators, consulates, employer associations and other outreach partners.
