U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA partners with Associated General Contractors of America's Shreveport, La., chapter
Reducing work-related injuries and fatalities is top priority of partnership
SHREVEPORT, La. -- Ensuring the highest level of employee safety and health is the goal of a new partnership formed today between the Associated General Contractors of America's Shreveport chapter and the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
"The partnership affirms a shared commitment to promote construction safety in the Shreveport area," said Dean McDaniel, OSHA's regional administrator in Dallas. "We are hopeful that this cooperative effort will help prevent injuries and fatalities."
The agreement will serve as a model to construction companies by demonstrating how to implement an effective safety and health program while developing criteria for contractor safety and health programs.
AGC is a national trade association for the construction industry with approximately 450 member companies in Shreveport. Among other goals, the association focuses on preventing workplace fatalities for more than 150,000 construction employees in the Shreveport area.
OSHA's Strategic Partnership Program is part of the agency's ongoing efforts to improve the safety and health of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and employees.
Employers and employees with questions about this and other OSHA partnerships may call OSHA's Baton Rouge Area Office at 225-298-5458 or visit OSHA's Web site at http://www.osha.gov/index.html (click on "Cooperative Programs").
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, OSHA's role is to promote safe and healthful working conditions for America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, outreach and education. For more information, visit http://www.osha.gov.
