U.S. Department of Labor Cites Commercial Building Contractor
For Exposing Employees to Fall Hazards at Missouri Job Site
SPRINGFIELD, MO – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited DDG Construction Services Inc. – based in Charlotte, North Carolina – for failing to provide workers with fall protection at a commercial building site in Springfield, Missouri. The company faces proposed penalties of $98,693.
OSHA inspectors also cited the company for failing to ensure the attachment of fall safety systems to an aerial lift to protect employees working at heights, and failing to provide eye protection. OSHA has cited DDG Construction Services Inc. for more than 15 fall violations since 2014.
“Falls are preventable when required safety measures are taken,” said OSHA’s Kansas City Area Director Karena Lorek. “Employers must develop and implement safety procedures to ensure that employees are protected from falls and other workplace safety hazards.”
The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
OSHA’s Annual National Fall Prevention Safety Stand-Down will raise awareness among workers and employers about preventing fall hazards in construction. The nationwide campaign will be held May 6-10, 2019.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA’s role is to help ensure these conditions for America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education and assistance.
