The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration and NOAA's National Weather Service held a telephone news conference on Monday, July 1, with broadcast meteorologists and weather reporters to discuss the danger of heat to workers and provide life-saving information to share with outdoor workers in their communities.
The conference, led by Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels and NOAA's National Weather Service Director Dr. Louis Uccellini, featured information about the 2013 OSHA Heat Illness Prevention Campaign, which aims to prevent these deaths and illnesses by educating workers and employers about how to stay cool on the job. NOAA's National Weather Service also provided a weather outlook for the rest of summer.
