Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were to exposed to: (a) Main elevator and south elevators, employees were exposed to a potential fall hazard while operating the manually operated manlifts which were not provided with guardrails on all sides of each manlift car. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to install a complete enclosure on the manlift cars. (b) Main elevator and the south elevator, employees were exposed to a potential crushing hazard in case of a manlift failure due to the lack of guardrails around the base of the manually operated manlifts.
