Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck or crushed by moving machinery: a.On or about March 31, 1998, at Mayport Naval Station, aboard USS John F. Kennedy, adjacent to Elevator #4, the employer did not perform a tagout of the stanchions before work such as, but not limited to installing universal joint boot(s) and greasing of the stanchions commenced. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to re-train employees on tagout procedures to ensure that lockout and/or tagout procedures are implemented at all times. ABATEMENT VERIFICATION IS REQUIRED
