Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.254(c)(3)(i):A disconnecting switch or controller shall be provided at or near each welding machine which is not equipped with such a switch or controller mounted as an integral part of the machine. The switch shall be in accordance with Subpart S of this part. Overcurrent protection shall be provided as specified in Subpart S of this part. A disconnect switch with overload protection or equivalent disconnect and protection means, permitted by Subpart S of this part, shall be provided for each outlet intended for connection to a portable welding machine. On or about April 12, 2021, the employer did not ensure an outlet intended for the connection of a 30 amp, 480 volt Miller, Millermatic 350P portable welding machine was provided with overcurrent protection as specified in 1910, Subpart S. The overcurrent protection devices being utilized were 150 amp fuses, which were not sufficient protect the 30 amp branch circuit and 30 amp receptacle outlet intended to connect the welding machine.
