Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 004 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a. On or about April 19, 2021, employees were exposed to a pinch point hazard while operating the Block 2 welder as a result of inadequate guarding to protect employees from being caught-in the wire clamps. b. On or about April 23, 2021, employees were exposed to a pinch point hazard while operating the Large Block welder as a result of inadequate guarding to protect employees from being caught-in the wire clamps. c. On or about June 23, 2021, employees were operating the hydraulic wire cutter to cut copper wire in order to perform re-welds. The spring and whipping motion of the wire exposed the employees to a struck-by hazard. d. On or about July 1, 2021, employees operating and making adjustments to the edge rolls on the CNS Mill were exposed to a caught in hazard as a result of unguarded rollers and pinch points.
