29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or about February 4, 2020, employees operating a Destiny CNC machine processing stone slabs were exposed to an unguarded point of operation at the cutting spindle and a struck-by hazard from movement of the machine along its X, Y axes. b) On or about February 4, 2020, employees operating a Titan CNC machine processing stone slabs were exposed to an unguarded point of operation at the cutting spindle and a struck-by hazard from movement of the machine along its X, Y axes. c) On or about February 4, 2020, employees operating, but not limited to, a KUKA BACA Robotic Table Saw processing stone slabs were exposed to an unguarded point of operation saw blade and a struck by hazard from movement of the robotic arm on its X, Y, Z axes, in that the light curtain guards had been disengaged. d) On or about February 4, 2020, employees operating a Velocity Polisher, processing stone slabs, were exposed to unguarded rotating polishing wheels and ingoing rubber nip points. e) On or about February 4, 2020, employees operating a Fastback Polisher, processing stone slabs, were exposed to unguarded rotating polishing wheels.
