29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: At a worksite located at 2221 N Belcrest Ave Springfield, MO: Employees were exposed to caught-in or struck-by hazards. a) This was demonstrated on or about January 13, 2021, and at times prior to when workers were observed working at two Balgar pedestal grinders to buff/fine grinding of manufactured railings. The rotating shafts created a rotating parts hazard. b) This was demonstrated on or about January 13, 2021, and at times prior to when a worker had used a General International Drill Press without the use of a guard. This created a point of hazard with a rotating part. c) This was demonstrated on or about May 26, 2021, and at times prior to when works used two Bridgeport Drill Presses without the use of a guard. This created a point of hazard with a rotating part. d) This was demonstrated on or about May 26, 2021, at times prior to when a worker was observed working at a blue stand-up belt sander with a 3 inch opening on either side of the point of operation. The openings consisted of rotating parts due to the rotation of the belt. e) This was demonstrated on or about March 26, 2021, and at times prior to when a worker used a belt sander with a 9 inch opening along one side of the point of operation and a 3 inch opening on the other side. The openings consisted of rotating parts due to the rotation of the belt.
