Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 011 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: On or about December 12, 2014 and times prior thereto, employees of Mid-America Steel Products, Inc. manufactured trailer parts in the metal corrugated building located at or near 909 C. North Missouri Avenue in Corning, Arkansas. The employer did not ensure one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to the following machinery to protect the operator and other employees from accessing the point of operations, rotating parts, and flying chips: a. A horizontal lathe manufactured by Heylingenstaedt & Comp, model 800E/2000, and serial number 188-224 was observed without guarding at the chuck, exposing employees to caught-in hazards from rotating parts. b. A vertical CNC Milling machine manufactured by Cincinnati and marked with serial number 4A3V1Y-197 was observed without guarding at the point of operation, exposing employees to caught-in hazards from rotating parts. c. A vertical CNC milling machine manufactured by ACRA Machinery, Inc., no other visible markings, was observed without guarding at the point of operation, exposing employees to caught-in hazards from rotating parts. d. A horizontal lathe manufactured by Warner & Swasey with model TudorMax19x79 was observed without guarding at the chuck, exposing employees to caught-in hazards from rotating parts. e. A vertical 2-station drill press manufactured by Avery, and serial numbers: MA14503/MA14504 were observed without guarding at the point of operation, exposing employees to caught-in hazards from rotating parts.
