29 CFR 1910.305(g)(2)(ii): Flexible cords may be used only in continuous lengths without splice or tap. Hard-service cord and junior hard-service cord No. 14 and larger may be repaired if spliced so that the splice retains the insulation, outer sheath properties, and usage characteristics of the cord being spliced. At the facility, the employer did not ensure that flexible cords that were spliced retained the insulation, outer sheath properties, and usage characteristics of the cord being spliced in the following locations: a. Power cable of the box fan near the mixing area; b. Extension cord under conveyor going towards Manual Booth Number 2; and c. Extension cord used as power cable to box fan between Manual Booth Number 1 and Trim Department.
