Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards: a) On or about June 25, 2010, and at times prior, Lucas Oil Products Inc., dba Lucas Oil Production Studios HD did not ensure that employees at the Thunder Valley Motocross Racetrack at 701 South Rooney Road in Lakewood, Colorado were protected from fall hazards. 1. The employer directed utility employees to remove guardrails from ten scissor lifts at the Thunder Valley Motocross Racetrack at 701 South Rooney Road in Lakewood, Colorado. Eight camera operators and technicians were directed to work from the unguarded scissor lift platforms. The work that was being conducted included the removal of rails, and the set up of the cameras. The unguarded scissor lifts were used at heights from 6 to 27 feet. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is: Follow the manufacturer's specifications to only use the aerial platform with all guardrails in place. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
