29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding were not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, in-going nip points, rotating parts, flying chips, and sparks. (a) On or about May 5, 2022, and at times prior thereto, employees performing routine maintenance on the NEC- Canceller machine at the USPS P&DC facility were exposed to broken bones by the in-running nip points while performing routine maintenance on the machine with covers removed while it was connected to a live power source. (b) On or about May 18, 2022, and at times prior thereto, employees working on and near the Dual Pass Rough Cull (DPRC #2) at the USPS P&DC facility were exposed to broken bones, lacerations, and mild transient loss of function when a broken bearing and shaft were left exposed. The U.S. Postal Service was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number1555050, citation number 2, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on March 28, 2022, with respect to a workplace located at 3701 West Wendover Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27495. The U.S. Postal Service was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.212(a)(2), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1203272, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on March 20, 2017, with respect to a workplace located at 660 Westfield Road, San Francisco, CA 94128.
