Text For Citation: 02 Item/Group: 052 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees housed in trailer #3 were exposed to the hazards of fire, smoke inhalation, electric shock and electrocution: a)North Entrance - The one-bulb light fixture, which was mounted on the outside wall contained a broken mounting bracket and was not provided with strain relief. b)West Bedroom - The two-bulb light fixture, which was mounted on the ceiling, did not contain a permanent and continuous path to ground. c)Middle Bedroom - The two-bulb light fixture was missing a light bulb and mounted 24 inches above the bed, which exposed live electrical parts to accidental contact. d)Kitchen - The two-bulb light fixture containing a broken mounting bracket was not provided with strain relief. e)East Bedroom - The fuse box, supplying power to the trailer, was not provided with an approved door and cover, which exposed live electrical parts to accidental contact. f)Kitchen - The GE refrigerator was not grounded, and the metal door handle of the refrigerator contained 69 volts. Among other methods, one feasible means of abatement would be to provide electrical installations which are in compliance with the National Electrical Code.
