Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The %% employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to biological hazards including salmonella through hand contact: a)Barn 43, (2/26/96) - Wash Crew employee was not wearing gloves while applying disinfectant in barn where contamination of salmonella enteritidis was confirmed. b)Barn 40, (3/6/96) - Cleaning Crew employee was not wearing gloves while applying disinfectant in barn where contamination of salmonella enteritidis was confirmed. c)Barn 40, (3/6/96) - Cleaning Crew employee was not wearing gloves while applying disinfectant in barn where contamination of salmonella enteritidis was confirmed. d)80s Barns, (3/6/96) - Employee pulling dead birds with bare hands was not furnished gloves to protect him from Salmonella bacteria. e)70s Barns - On or about 1/30/96 employee working as Barnsman handling dead birds was not furnished gloves to protect him from Salmonella bacteria. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to reduce or eliminate employee exposure includes, but is not necessarily limited to provide employees appropriate hand protection (gloves) in sufficient quantities and sizes.
