OSHA, local union, association to sign agreements, Jan. 17, to protect
sheet metal and air conditioning workers in Missouri and Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – To protect the safety and health of Missouri and Kansas workers, Marcia P. Drumm, acting regional administrator of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration in Kansas City, and Stacey Smyly, executive director of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association in Kansas City, will participate in a signing ceremony Friday, Jan. 17, to formalize a partnership between the groups.

In conjunction with the signing, an alliance will be signed by Drumm and representatives from the International Association of Sheet Metal Workers, Local 2. The alliance will provide safety and health training to Local 2 members.

"The partnership and alliance establishes a collaborative relationship to promote safe and healthful work environments for Missouri and Kansas workers in the construction and general industries," Drumm said. "These agreements provide a three-pronged approach to promoting the 'safety culture' of this sector of the sheet metal industry."

The partnership will also encourage employers to voluntarily improve their safety and health performance, provide methods to assist them in their efforts, and recognize employers with exemplary safety and health programs. The alliance will provide safety and health training to Local 2 members.
