Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, RedBuilt, LLC. operates four manufacturing plants, five design centers, and a country-wide technical sales team who locally represents their communities. Redbuilt has a full line of commercial-grade strong, lightweight, and versatile engineered wood products, including open-web trusses, laminated veneer lumber, I-joists and more. One of RedBuilt’s manufacturing and design centers is in Hillsboro, Oregon. The Operation Manager was looking for a safety management system that would provide sustainability. After some research, the company found the On-Site Consultation program. RedBuilt had its first Consultation visit with Oregon On-Site Consultation in 2015 when its injury and illness rates were above the national average for its industry.

During their initial visit, the consultants addressed work processes involving the use of respiratory protection, material handling and placement, ventilation, and numerous machines guarding issues. The consultants were a great resource for the company’s new safety coordinator. Some changes the company implemented as a direct result of its Consultation visits were a revamping of the lockout/tagout program and a new hire mentoring program. It was also important that company associates were involved in developing and teaching these programs.

The Hillsboro, Oregon facility earned Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) status in January 2018 and graduated from the SHARP program in January of 2022. During their four years in SHARP, they did not have any days away restricted or transferred time injuries or illnesses. They also had zero recordable injuries in that time. SHARP acknowledges small and medium-sized businesses that have used OSHA On-Site Consultation Services and operate exemplary workplace safety and health programs. Small businesses that achieve SHARP status receive a deferral from OSHA or State Plan programmed inspections for the period that the SHARP designation is valid. Acceptance of a worksite into SHARP is an achievement that identifies the employer as a model for occupational safety and health among its business peers.

The company’s involvement with the On-Site Consultation Program has improved the company’s workplace safety culture and created increase emphasis on all aspects of workplace safety and health. The company takes great pride in being involved in the SHARP program. In fact, its SHARP flag is the first thing you see when you enter their facility.
