Join us for our Workers Memorial Events, Monday, April 20 - Friday, April 24, 2026

We come together to not only honor and remember the thousands of lives lost each year due to a workplace incident, illness, and disease. But we stand with those that are left behind dealing with the everlasting pain, suffering and inconvenience one endures after such a loss.

Session 2: Confined Spaces
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. ET
The University of Texas at Arlington
Session description:
Confined spaces continue to be one of the most misunderstood—and deadly—work environments across general industry, construction, utilities, and municipalities. This one-hour national webcast examines OSHA’s Permit-Required Confined Space Standard (29 CFR 1910.146) and related construction requirements (29 CFR 1926 Subpar AA), focusing on the conditions that repeatedly lead to serious injuries and fatalities. Despite clear regulatory requirements, OSHA investigations consistently show that fatalities occur due to atmospheric hazards, inadequate hazard evaluation, and failed rescue attempts, with a significant number of incidents involving would-be rescuers who were not properly trained or equipped. Many of these events happen during routine operations—tank cleaning, maintenance shutdowns, sewer work, and utility access—where the danger is not always immediately visible.
Participants will explore how quickly oxygen-deficient or toxic atmospheres can overcome workers, why improper entry procedures remain a leading citation issue, and how breakdowns in planning, monitoring, and supervision contribute to preventable tragedies. This session will translate OSHA requirements into practical actions employers, supervisors, and safety professionals must take to ensure compliance and protect workers.
Instructor:
Paul Wind
Paul.wind@uta.edu
Session 3: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET
Atlantic OSHA Training Center
Session description:
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is more than just a requirement; it is the final line of defense between a worker and a life-altering injury. This one-hour awareness session explores critical standards for eye, head, and foot protection while reviewing the fundamental responsibilities of the employer. From understanding ANSI ratings to the importance of respiratory fit, participants will review the selection, inspection, and maintenance of the gear that keeps them safe. We will move beyond simply 'what' to wear and explore the 'why' behind PPE as a last line of defense.
