Many conditions and operations in shipbreaking may result in hazards that must be evaluated and controlled. Some of these conditions and operations include:
- Housekeeping
- Illumination
- Utilities
- Confined or Isolated Spaces. See Confined or Enclosed Spaces and Other Dangerous Atmospheres: Work in Confined or Enclosed Spaces.
- Lifeboats
- Health and Sanitation
- First Aid

Note: Department of Transportation markings must be maintained on hazardous material containers. Department of Transportation Markings [29 CFR 1915.100] refers to the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) [29 CFR 1910.1200]. Also, it should be noted that the HCS requirements do not apply to hazardous waste.
