- MEMORANDUM FOR:

- STATE PLAN DESIGNEES
- THROUGH:
- DOUGLAS L. PARKER
Assistant Secretary - FROM:
- SCOTT C. KETCHAM, Director
Directorate of Enforcement Programs - SUBJECT:
- Extension of the National Emphasis Program (NEP) on Amputations in Manufacturing Industries
This memorandum directs Regional Offices and State Plan Programs to continue inspections under CPL 03-00-022, National Emphasis Program (NEP) on Amputations in Manufacturing Industries until June 30, 2025. OSHA’s enforcement history shows that employees are frequently injured when working on or around machinery and equipment with insufficient guarding and/or energy control procedures. This NEP targets industrial and manufacturing workplaces having machinery and equipment that can potentially cause amputations and seeks to identify and reduce or eliminate those hazards. Area offices should continue to conduct programmed inspections of establishments under this NEP using the software and database provided by the Office of Statistical Analysis. In addition, Area Offices should continue to conduct unprogrammed inspections under this NEP as appropriate where complaints and/or referrals allege potential exposures to amputation hazards.
If you have any questions regarding this extension, please contact the Directorate of Enforcement Programs, Office of General Industry and Agricultural Enforcement at (202) 693-1850.
