Investigation Summary
At 2:00 p.m. on December 3, 2020, an employee who worked as a Police Officer for a City Police Department was reported hospitalized with COVID-19. The employee was actually hospitalized on November 20, 2020. According to a coworker (Risk Manager), on November 18, 2020, the employee and five coworkers, all Police Officers including one Supervisor (Sergeant), were in a briefing room together sitting around a single approximate 10 foot by 4 foot table. The employee and coworkers wrote reports for approximately 6 hours. At a certain times the employees did not wear facial covers while talking to each other and while less than six feet apart. One of the coworkers had cold symptoms but continued to work due to deadlines. Of the six Police Officers, three tested positive for COVID-19. On November 20, 2020, the employee was off duty at a second home in another City. That same day, he felt ill and was hospitalized for approximately 2 days due to COVID-19. The Union Representative stated that the Sergeant thought the coworker was experiencing symptoms due to allergies. The employer did not have Adequate Aerosol Transmissible Diseases policies and procedures in place.
