Directives - Regional (Archive)

 

Regional directives are comprised of enforcement strategies, including Regional Emphasis Programs (REP) and Local Emphasis Programs (LEP). REP directives are established at the regional level and extend to all area offices within that region. Conversely, LEP directives can be established at either the regional or area office level, targeting hazards or industries with specific risks to workers in that area. Essentially, while REPs have a broad application across a region, LEPs focus on addressing localized hazards or industry-specific risks.

State Plans are OSHA-approved workplace safety and health programs operated by individual states or U.S. territories. There are currently 22 State Plans covering both private sector and state and local government workers, and seven State Plans covering only state and local government workers. State Plans are monitored by OSHA and must be at least as effective as OSHA in protecting workers and in preventing work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths.
