Chemicals
The following list identifies chemicals commonly associated with these operations. Chemical names link to the corresponding entry in OSHA’s Occupational Chemical Database. In this listing the term welding is meant to include cutting and brazing.
- Metals. The metals that may be present will depend on the material being worked on, and the makeup of welding rods, fluxes, etc. For this information see the appropriate Safety Data Sheets.
- Other Chemicals. These are present in the fluxes used or may be produced by the welding operation.
- Decomposition products. These will vary depending on the presence of coatings that may be on or near the object being welded. Residues left by degreasing, usually chlorinated hydrocarbons, may form these compounds when heated.
